Friday, September 18, 2009 Prairie Land’s Career Technology Studies (CTS) Mobile Trades Facility has arrived at its new home and is ready for class. The Prairie Land Regional Division #25 will celebrate the grand opening of its Mobile Career Technology Studies (CTS) Unit, 10:00 a.m., September 25, 2009, Morrin School. After a short stay at the 2009 WorldSkills Competition the Unit was delivered to Morrin School on Tuesday, September 8 where it began operating as a CTS classroom for the first semester of the 2009-2010 school year. "PLRD is very pleased that we are now able to offer students in Morrin and Delia a working insight into the World of Trades in our mobile state of the art facility,” said Duane Roy, PLRD Board Chair. Prairie Land’s Career Technology Studies (CTS) Mobile Teaching Unit is a joint funding initiative of Alberta Education and Alberta Infrastructure. The fully equipped CTS Mobile Unit will deliver welding, mechanical, carpentry, electrical and plumbing courses to junior and senior high students in Prairie Land schools where these course options are not presently available. “The CTS Mobile Unit reflects what can happen when government at various levels work together to support student learning”, noted Dr. Wes Neumeier, Superintendent of Schools. “Many resources were brought to this project through a joint effort involving the Provincial Government, Starland County and the Prairie Land Regional Division Board of Trustees. We are proud to be part of the project and know it will make a difference for our students as they delve into and receive instruction on various CTS units." Honourable Jack Hayden said as Minister of Infrastructure and MLA for Drumheller-Stettler, "on behalf of the Government of Alberta we are pleased the CTS Mobile Teaching Unit will be assisting students to further their studies in the trades. Facilities such as this provide new opportunities to students within the rural communities." Blair Raugust, a recent graduate of the Faculty of Education from the University of Alberta, has been hired as the teacher for PLRD Mobile Unit; Blair will be on site during the grand opening, touring interested attendees through the mobile trades facility. - 30 - For additional information, please contact: Dr. Wes Neumeier, Superintendent of Schools |
