Philosophy and Theory

In this Project Room, the students focus on learning Social Studies.  This does not mean that students in our school are not immersed in the use of technology to facilitate learning in other subjects; quite the contrary.  Our students have numerous opportunities to utilize technology in a wide variety of ways, in all different subjects and at all levels.

The study of Social Studies in Alberta is primarily to help our young people gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes to become responsible, active citizens.  By allowing students to work together in teams and groups, they learn some of the skills necessary for cooperation with others.  By working together, students must learn how to compromise, negotiate, and reach a consensus.  Students must also be accountable and show responsibility for themselves and their learning. Through the use of Project Based Learning, students demonstrate and apply what they have learned in authentic situations.
