2005 Alberta Centennial Identity Project

 

2005 is the Centennial Anniversary of Alberta's admission to Canadian Confederation, and her birth as a Province.

Over the past 100 years, special people have dedicated their lives to their chosen professions, and through the pursuit of their goals, have typified what others see as being "Albertan".

Task:

            Working in partners, create a PowerPoint slide show highlighting 10 Prominent Albertans, who have helped to define Alberta’s Identity.  Choose one from each of the following categories:

·        Sports

·        Literature

·        Music (traditional, classical, country, or popular)

·        Business Leaders

·        Military

·        Entertainment (TV/Movies)

·        Politics/government

·        Science

·        Historical Figures

·        Art

 

Use your textbook (Canada Today: p. 13 – 15), as well as Library and Internet resources to research and find 10 prominent Canadians.  The following sites may prove helpful:

Format:

Your slide show will consist of 13 slides:

Slide #1        - Introduction (Question:  What is a Canadian?)

§   By-line (who created this production?)

Slides #2-11   - 10 Prominent Canadians (1 slide per person)

§   Each slide should give a brief biography of the person, and what they did that was influential or significant.

§   Where possible, include a picture of the person chosen

Slide #12      - Conclusion  (Answer the Question)

Slide #13      - Bibliography (list ALL sources, either text or internet)

 

 

Timeline:

Day 1:     Begin project.  Select 10 prominent Canadians, one from each category.  Begin filling in project Story Board.

Day 2:         Complete Story Board and submit for approval during the first 40 minutes of class. (after your story board has been checked, it will be returned to you).  Use the remaining time to begin constructing your slideshow. 

Day 3:         Continue work constructing your slideshow.

Day 4:    Continue work constructing your slideshow.

Day 5:     Presentations, Assessments

 

Presentation:

You will present your slideshow to the rest of the class in one week.  Your slide show must be 4-5 minutes in duration.  Please adjust the timings for your slides appropriately.

 

Assessment:

Assessment of this project will be based on the attached rubric (hint:  refer to the rubric as you work, to include all necessary items).  As well, you will be completing self-evaluation rubrics (for yourself and your partner), and peer evaluations for other presentations in the class.

 

Project rubric (completed by teacher):                         70% of total mark

Self assessment rubric                                                     20% of total mark

Peer assessment rubric                                                  10% of total mark

 

 

Power Point Project Storyboard:

            In point form, jot a few notes detailing the contents of each slide.  Include the category, and the name of the individual chosen.  You may sketch the slide outline, including location of graphics and text.
